Overview

At Vocal Justice, we believe that every young person, especially Black and Brown youth, deserves an education that affirms their racial and ethnic identities, builds their critical consciousness, and prepares them to speak out against the very injustices they may have experienced firsthand. That’s why we built a rigorous, fun, and justice-oriented public speaking program that positions youth proximate to injustice to advocate for liberation.

To reach young people, we train and compensate educators across the U.S. to facilitate our program at their schools, either as part of an existing class or as an afterschool program. Our long-term goal is to use learnings from our direct service programs to inform structural changes to the U.S. education system, advocating for new curriculum standards, assessments, and funding allocations that make social justice education and youth power core to every school.

We’re an early-stage, justice-driven organization eager to grow. We’re looking for full-time summer interns who can help us take our impact to the next level. Learn more below.

Roles & Job Descriptions

We're excited to hire three full-time interns for the following roles (click for details):

Vocal Justice Communications & Special Projects Intern

Vocal Justice Growth Strategy Intern

Vocal Justice Program Evaluation Intern

Work Schedule & Compensation

Interns will work full-time for 10 weeks between June and August 2022. The ideal internship period is Monday, June 13 through Friday, August 19; however, we will adjust individual timelines as needed, recognizing some people have competing school schedules. To promote well-being, our team has Fridays off during the summer. Interns can take Fridays off or flex time on other days, pending approval from their managers.

All positions are fully remote. Interns must be available for work calls between 9AM and 3PM PT, and can set their own work schedules outside of that.

Our standard salary for full-time, 10-week summer internships is $8000 (~$20/hour). If a university or other organization can cover part or all of this salary, we will lower our contribution. That said, when selecting our top three candidates, we will not preference individuals just because they have access to outside funding.
